Camphor (known locally as Kapur or Kapoor) is a white, waxy, crystalline terpenoid compound with a strong, penetrating aroma . It is traditionally extracted through the steam distillation of the wood of the camphor laurel tree (Cinnamomum camphora), but it can also be produced synthetically from turpentine oil.
